Microsoft has reportedly started testing Xbox Cloud Gaming support for games that its users have in full. The beta feature, which is expected to be rolled out to select Xbox Game Pass subscribers soon, has been running for half a decade.

Microsoft initially announced support for streaming property games during X019 in November 2019, back when Xbox Cloud Gaming was still called Project xCloud. At that event, the company said that the beta version of this function will start sometime in 2020. Although this did not happen, Microsoft has been repeating from time to time that the support for streaming games of Xbox purchases is still coming.

The company may be ready to start making good on that promise, according to a new report from The Verge, which states that Microsoft has just started testing the feature internally. The current version of the service is said to support 10 games. Half of those previously available on Xbox Game Pass, this group includes Hades, High in Life, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Metro flowand The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Here are the other five Dredge, Dying Light 2full edition of Witch 3and Xbox One versions of The Crew Motorfest and PGA Tour 2K23.

Xbox Cloud Gaming Support for Streaming More Games Reportedly Coming Soon

This feature is currently on track to be rolled out to some users before the end of November 2024, according to one source. It is reported that its test version will first be transferred to members of the Xbox Insiders program, which anyone is free to sign up for. The full list of Xbox titles that players will be able to stream as part of this beta is currently unclear. The Verge says that Microsoft’s main goal is to allow users to run the thousands of games they own, citing sources familiar with the project.

This report is in line with what Microsoft’s Head of Gaming, Phil Spencer, said back in February, when he promised that Xbox Cloud Gaming would start supporting games before the end of 2024. By doing so, the service will start directly competing with the likes of Boosteroid. and Nvidia’s GeForce Now, which now allows users to play (some) games they already own on other platforms through the cloud.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is now an exclusive feature of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. But once it finally starts letting users stream their own games directly, the service could be strong enough to stand on its own. Microsoft is believed to be aware of this possibility, with recent reports suggesting that the company is considering making the Xbox Game Pass exclusive.
